Lower, middle, and upper school teaching and learning experiences are designed with the individual learner in mind- aiming to meet their unique learning needs, aptitudes, and interests through their preferred learning style. Learning experiences are multidisciplinary to mirror the world we live in, ensuring learning is relevant and authentic. We offer content, knowledge, and skills that have value and worth, making sure every learner is prepared for their chosen pathway.

A Rapidly Changing World

The content, experiences, applications, technologies, and skills of our world are evolving and expanding at an exponential rate. The skills that have been considered critical for students to know and do are now becoming obsolete and are being replaced with different knowledge and skill set requirements. The big question for parents and caregivers: Are conventional schools imparting the skills and knowledge critical for students to know and do in our ever-changing world?

Surviving and Thriving in Today's World

To survive and thrive in today's world, we need to be sure learners are offered courses and experiences that support successful, independent, healthy, and happy living post graduation. What happens when young people graduate without learning food preparation, nutrition, accessing and assessing valid sources of information? What about managing budgets, being in charge of their own health and wellness, navigating healthcare and insurances, using basic tools and doing small home repair? Should young people graduate without these skills?

If not "College Prep", then what?

A "college prep" program of studies is great AND is not the path for everyone. Young people who have an interest, passion, or talent in something requiring another type of preparation can be left feeling invisible and diminished. So, you might ask, aren't there trade schools for those students? Sure, but what happens when those schools don't accept them? What about students who have yet another pathway in mind that is neither trade, nor college focused? What about students who are undecided?

We honor all of our students and create pathways that will prepare them no matter what they decide. What about students whose ambition is to go to college? Are you saying to forget college prep? Absolutely not!

Meeting Needs of All Students

Great schools ensure that every child’s needs are met—academically, socially, and emotionally. At Hilltop Academy, we continually reflect on whether each learner’s heart is inspired, whether their interests, gifts, and talents are being tapped into, and whether joy and curiosity are fueling their exploration. We believe education should nurture the whole child and honor their individuality.

But what happens when programs of study teach to the “middle”?
